The Beastie Boys Are Finished

It was a tragic day two years ago for fans and the Beastie Boys themselves when MCA, Adam Yauch, passed away. As a critical member of the group, fans were not only saddened by his death, but also anxious to see how and in what form the band would continue from there.

Although the Beastie Boys put two more years in, recently bandmate Mike D confirmed the worst for many fans: the group won’t be able to continue.

Despite their best efforts, they simply “cannot write new music.” The band also confirmed that this was the reason they have been reluctant to tour in recent years. All of these statements are on record, as they were uttered in a courtroom during the Beastie Boys recent lawsuit against Monster Energy Drinks.

The band did not grant the company permission to use their song in a video titled “Ruckus in the Rockies”, and as such were awarded more than $1 million. They ended up winning this suit and actually garnered $1.7 million.

Regardless of the money, this news is quite saddening for fans, especially those who have been following the history of the group since their origin in 1981. Regardless, it was a legendary run, and we have to tip our hats Ad-Rock, Mike D, and MCA for their contributions in music, hip hop and society in general.  If you haven’t done so recently you should take a little time and listen to your Beastie Boys catalog to hear the greatness that these 3 guys were.
