Gibson Announces New Zakk Wylde Signature Edition

Posted 19 Oct 2013 in Electric Guitar

The cocentric black and white bands of the Zakk Wylde signature edition Gibson Les Paul is one of the most iconic finishes ever to grace the body of a guitar. Perhaps as an effort to expand on this line or in a move of respect to the Black Label Society frontman, Gibson has announced a new edition to the Zakk Wylde line.

Zakk Wylde Signature Edition

Called the Moderne of Doom, the guitar is based off unused designs Gibson drew up back in the late 50’s, and the cultural context is quite evident. The basic curve of the body and the horizontal pinstripes on the Moderne definitely bring to mind that classic era, but the hardware is all modern, especially the dual EMG pickups. The pickups, Floyd Rose tremolo, and Grover tuners all were hand picked by Wylde himself.

Perhaps most exciting to fans isn’t the fact that yet another Zakk Wylde guitar is one on the market, but that the guitar is a Moderne. Rumors of this design have been circulating for years, and among Gibson fans the design was thought of as somewhat of a myth. However, with the release of this signature edition, chances are more generalized versions of the Moderne should be available soon.
