Few bands have changed the face of metal to the degree that Megadeth has. For a number of years, the band has managed to release hit after hit after hit, all while maintaining busy touring schedules and personal lives. Yet, no album had quite the impact that their 5th studio album, Countdown To Extinction, had. First released in all the way back in 1992, Countdown to Extinction featured such classic tunes as “Symphony of Destruction” and “Sweating Bullets” and achieved double platinum status.

Megadeth announces a new album.

So what’s next for the for the brutal foursome? Well, ever since the release of Countdown to Extinction, the band has toured those songs heavily and played them to audiences across the world. The band managed to capture these songs in live performances and have stated they wish to release a full length live version of Countdown to Extinction.

Titled straightforwardly as Countdown to Extinction: Live, the album is currently slated to be released on September 24th. It captured a show that Megadeth played back in December 2012 at the Fox Theater in Los Angeles.

Many fans have already begun viewing Countdown to Extinction: Live as the sequel to the band’s previous live album, Rust in Peace: Live. This makes sense, as the original Rust In Peace was released in 1990 just prior to the original Countdown to Extinction. Whether or not Megadeth will be continuing this live trend is yet to be determined.
