Will Metallica Be Removed From Glastonbury Lineup?

Posted 05 Jun 2014 in News, Performance

Metallica has been dominating the metal world and crossing the globe for decades entertaining fans with their music.  This time the band is making headlines for something other than their music.  Fans of the Glastonbury Festival want Metallica removed as the headlining act.  Why?

Fans want Metallica removed from the Glastonbury lineup.

It hasn’t been all peaches and cream for Metallica lately.  Although they are as popular as ever they’ve been feeling some heat from fans and other bands alike.  Earlier this week the band Mogwai threw some shade Metallica’s way.  Pissed that Metallica is playing at the same time as them they had some not so kind words about the worlds biggest metal act.

Barry Burns told Gigwise:

I can’t wait to hear that guy [Lars Ulrich] play the drums again — unbelievably bad…He’s terrible

Stuart Braitwaite chimed in with the following:

I just can’t wait until we go all quiet and you can hear ‘Enter Sandman’ in the background, because we’re on at the same time. I don’t really see the fuss. They’re a pretty big rock band and it’s a pretty big rock festival. It would be good if they could go back in time to 1989. Metallica at Glastonbury in 1989.

Mogwai

Mogwai doesn’t seem to be big Metallica fans.

At least that was kind of related to the music and how Metallica doesn’t fit the standard Glastonbury mold.  But the latest trouble for Metallica has nothing to do with the songs they’ll play at the festival.  Fans are not happy that Metallica front-man James Hetfield has agreed to narrate a History Channel documentary.  That doesn’t sound too bad right?  Its probably a documentary related in some way shape or form to music.  What else could it be?

Fans are disappointed that the singer will be narrating an 8 part series called “The Hunt” which is slated to air beginning on June 8.  Obviously the doc is about hunting.  In this case its focused on hunting one of the biggest predators on Earth, the Kodiak brown bear.

Hetfield has never kept his love of hunting on the down low so its not really all that surprising that he would be interested in participating in this topic.  But Glastonbury fans want nothing to do with it.  Distressed fans have set up a Facebook Page to help draw attention to the movement to remove Metallica from this year’s event.  The page already has over 15k likes so there is obviously some steam behind this.

We’ll have to wait and see how much pull the Glastonbury fans really have but its unlikely that the event organizers will pull one of the biggest bands in the world from the ticket.
