Nashville Outlaws: Motley Crue Country Tribute Reveal Album

Posted 20 May 2014 in Artist News, Music, News, Performance, Recording

Motley Crue has built up the reputation of being one of the hardest rocking, hardest partying and long lasting bands in the history of heavy metal.  There is no doubt at all that Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee and Mick Mars have earned their reputation.  There have been monstrous hit records, binge drinking and drugging, car crashes, meltdowns and even a homemade porno.  So you can imagine my surprise when I learned that the band has endorsed a tribute album.  Ok so a Crue tribute album isn’t that strange right?  Well the type of music and the fact that the band not only endorsed this but is also promoting it certainly seems a little weird.

Nashville Outlaws

You may remember a few months back that Motley Crue held a press conference to announce that the band would no longer be touring or making music together.  This seemed like the end of a great era of heavy metal music.  But don’t worry Crue fans.  You won’t be left high and dry without being able to hear some of your favorite Motley Crue tunes.  During their farewell press conference the band confirmed AND endorsed the release of the upcoming tribute album.  Just be prepared for a bit of a shock when you listen to how the songs have been rearranged.

Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute To Motley Crue will feature 15 cover songs performed by some pretty big stars.  The thing is these aren’t the heavy metal stars that you would think would be jumping at the chance to cover some Motley Crue songs.  The artists on this tribute album are from a completely different genre of music.  Any guesses?  Rap…no.  EDM…no.  Classical…no.  What’s that leave?  Ok you guessed it….COUNTRY MUSIC.

The album is scheduled to be released on July 8th and will include covers from Florida Georgia Line, Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Darius Rucker and Rascal Flats to name a few.

Even stranger than the lineup is what bassist Nikki Sixx had to say.  He was quoted as saying “We did not make this record for Motley Crue fans, but for country fans who are also rock fans.” I get where he is coming from here but it almost sounds like a bit of a slap in the face to the fans who have followed Motley Crue for decades.  It would have been nice to hear something acknowledging the longtime Crue fans but no one ever said that rock stars were geniuses.  That’s why they have promotion companies making statements.   Sixx did back up a bit and continued by saying, “I believe that there’s going to be a lot of synergy and excitement for Motley Crue fans hearing different artists covering their favorite songs. People will be surprised how these artists made the songs their own and we couldn’t be happier with how the album turned out.”
