Police describe guitar thief as “Heartless Grinch”

Posted 23 Dec 2010 in Guitar Crime

A Kelowna musician played his heart out for the benefit of others and was rewarded with the theft of his prized guitar.

The musician was volunteering his time and musical talent to bring some Christmas cheer to the staff and customers of a Roxby Road thrift store on Monday, said police.

“After finishing his set of songs, he put his guitar away in its black soft gig bag and walked mere feet away from it to accept a gift from the grateful store staff,” said the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) in a news release. “After a moment he returned to find that his guitar had been stolen while his back was turned.”

The guitar is distinct with a bright blue metallic finish on the body and head (see piccture above). It is a Washburn AE 16, a cutaway electro-acoustic 6 string.

As yet, police have no witnesses or suspects, and are asking for the public’s help. They’re also appealing to the thief to “exercise a bit of goodwill” and return the guitar to the thrift store so it can be returned to its owner.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kelowna RCMP.
