If you haven’t taken the time to see the Sound City Movie you should definitely put it on your list.  I’m making the assumption that you are a music fan if you are visiting Guitar News Daily which is why I am strongly recommending this film.  If you appreciate some serious music history coupled with some VERY serious musicians as well as an extremely compelling story you won’t be disappointed.

The Sound City Studio was the birthplace of some extremely influential and popular albums dating back decades.  You will be blown away when you see the list of artists who recorded here you will understand how important this studio is in music history.  Artists and producers interviewed in the documentary, shot by Dave Grohl, who incidentally recorded Never Mind from Nirvana there, include:

Neil Giraldo, Dave Grohl, Rivers Cuomo, John Fogerty, Stevie Nicks, Trent Reznor, Tom Petty, Rick Rubin, Rick Springfield, Lars Ulrich, Butch Vig, Lee Ving and many many more including the legendary Paul McCartney.

Besides telling the story of the legendary studio and the rock n roll antics that took place Dave Grohl takes the documentary one step further.  I don’t want to spoil too much so I’ll just say that aside from the interview portion of the doc, Grohl pulls many of the legendary artists together to create some incredible new music that you can check out.  There is also a very nice debate on using analog vs digital recording (the analog board at Sound City is what made it such a unique studio) and the use of Pro Tools.  Its all good stuff and worth the time to watch this flick!
