Status Quo inspire whisky logo

Whisky brand Glen Rossie has redesigned its bottle and label after appointing Status Quo lead singer and guitarist Francis Rossi as its new chairman.

Rossi has been made chairman of the 196-year-old whisky after acquiring a significant minority stake alongside the Brand Cellar that has bought Glen Rossie from First Quench.

Packaging design agency Pocket Rocket has created a plectrum-inspired label and logo to re-launch the brand.

David Birchall, chief executive of the Brand Cellar, said the deal with Rossi was signed when he was on tour in Melbourne earlier this year.

“As chairman and ‘front man’ for the Glen Rossie brand, we believe he can help us reinvigorate sales not just in the UK but, as someone who has some 118 million records worldwide, overseas too,” he said.

Rossi was introduced to the Glen Rossie brand on a Status Quo tour a decade ago, after a caterer thought it funny to have a whisky bottle on the tour bus that had a similar name.

The whisky is said to have made regular appearances on subsequent tours.

The Brand Cellar is in talks with a number of interested parties regarding sales and distribution channels.
