Sheryl Crow auctions Guitar and vintage Mercedes for Joplin Relief effort
Sheryl Crow has raised $143,000 for Joplin Schools Recovery Fund of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks by auctioning off her beautiful white 1959 Mercedes Benz 190SL, like the car pictured below. A rare Gibson Les Paul Goldtop, dating back to the start of the rock’n’roll is to go under the auctioneer’s hammer in England. The guitar from 1954 is believed to have been played by the rockabilly musician Carl Perkins for his hit Blue Suede Shoes in Memphis. Originally thought to be worth little, it could fetch up to £50,000 according to the auctioneer. Townshend’s old Gold Top sells for $50k
A guitar once owned by The Who rocker Pete Townshend has raised $50,000usd (around £31,000gbp) at a music auction in London. The Gibson Les Paul Gold Top guitar, which smashed its original $32,000 estimate, was played by Townshend during the U.S. leg of the band’s Quadrophenia tour in 1973 and 1974. Larry Carlton donates ES-335s to Japanese relief effort
Larry Carlton and his label, 335 Records, are doing their part to assist Japanese recovery efforts after the recent earthquakes and tsunami. The guitar master has announced that he will donate five Gibson Custom Larry Carlton ES-335 guitars to help Japan.
