Richard Gere’s guitar collection to go under the hammer

Richard Gere’s extensive guitar collection is to be auctioned by Christies on 11th October and proceeds will go to fund humanitarian causes across the world. The whole collection of 110 guitars is expected to fetch in the region of $1m. It includes a 1958 Gibson Flying V once owned by Albert King, guitars owned by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, a 1931 Martin D-28, and one of legendary luthier James D’Aquisto’s archtops. Source: BBC

Lennon’s guitar is trapped

Illinois wants to rescue John Lennon’s guitar from the defunct Peace Museum. The guitar and other stuff has been sitting at storage sites, one of which may have “suffered significant water and mold damage,” Attorney General Lisa Madigan says. Madigan says that since no one, including museum administrator Melissa McGuire, has reregistered as a museum trustee, its valuables should to be handed over to “bona fide” charitable organizations. Man batters woman with scented candle and guitar

FORT WALTON BEACH — A 36-year-old man was arrested Sept. 18 on charges of battery after attacking his girlfriend with multiple items. The couple were mid-argument when the man threw a lit, scented candle in a glass jar at the woman. Hard Rock Cafe, Dubai, to build world’s tallest guitar

Dubai, no stranger to tall buildings, is about to shatter the record book’s tallest category once again. Hard Rock Café says it is building the world’s tallest guitar at 118 feet (approximately 36 metres) high to mark the café’s re-opening at its new location in Dubai Festival City (DFC) this coming October. Augusta music store broken into

Thieves broke into Rock Bottom Music in the 700 block of Broad Street early this morning and stole two electric guitars. Deputies found a hammer used to smash the window of the store lying on the counter and two empty guitar stands when they arrived, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report. Guitar fish finds temporary home in Nashville

The Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga will serve as a temporary home for Gibson, a guitar fish that was located inside the Nashville Aquarium. The restaurant was damaged as a result of the flooding brought by record-breaking rains in Nashville and surrounding areas in Tennessee in early May. Man charged with stealing 10 guitars

Watertown, NY – Police say a regular visitor to Re-Sale America Inc., 302 Court St., helped himself to 10 guitars between February and April, causing a loss of $1,990 to the store. Peter J. Thuman, 43, of 1212 Superior St., Apt. G-12, was charged Monday with fourth-degree grand larceny. He awaits grand jury action.
