Whiskey Reverb Ready To Rock Buffalove Music Festival

Posted 28 May 2014 in General News

Yesterday we told you about the Buffalove Music Festival and how we are going to feature as many bands performing so we can help spread the word about some good music being played at a cool event.  Today we bring you the next band that will be rocking the Buffalove stage.  Ladies and gentlemen lets meet Whiskey Reverb.

Whiskey Reverb Live

Following up on my interview with Brandon Haima from Groove Force (soon to become Skypilot) I got the opportunity to talk to Whiskey Reverb so we can find out a little more about who they are and what goes into making their music.

Q&A With Whiskey Reverb

Q: Tell our readers where you are from, how you got together and how long have you been playing together.

A:We all met through music. We had all been playing in other bands and we enjoyed what each other was doing and we enjoyed each others company when we did have the opportunity to hang out or play shows together. About 5 years ago we decided to try and see what it would be like to play together, in spite of our vast genre differences we figured it would be at least a weird and fun time.

Q: If you were in a room with a group of total strangers and they knew nothing about your music how would you describe Whiskey Reverb’s sound to someone that had never heard you before?

A: We like to say that our music is a lot like the weather in Buffalo, if you wait like 5 minutes it will be totally different 🙂 All of us being from very different backgrounds musically it had taken us a little while to melt our sound into something that people started to dig. Our underlying theme and energy to our songs that we do try to put out is fun and positivity.

Q: Tell us a little about who is in the band?

A: Sure, our band is made up of 7 members; AJ Amherst is our front man and master of the ceremony. Jim Candytree is our main song writer and he sings and plays a bunch of stuff, but mostly acoustic guitar. Megan Brown is our beautiful and talented tiger-blooded front lady, she sings with soul purity. Mike Cassidy is the six string samurai, he is our versatile and badass lead guitarist. Wade Benford is our resident nordic alien and his long alien fingers stroke a multitude of keys and synths with taste. Tony Bales is our thunder bassist and tarot card reader. Scotty Harrington smashes the skins for us every night, we call him Uncle Daddy.

Q: Who are some of your biggest influences as a band?

A: We all have very different opinions listed for this question. But something that we definitely could agree on is that we have been very influenced by some of the amazing bands that we have had the pleasure of sharing stages from all over the region and country during the last 5 years. Honestly for us, seeing how other bands get down all night and being a part of the energy of a great event has had a huge influence on how we go about being a band, both musically and socially.

Q: What’s one of the coolest thing that has every happened to Whiskey Reverb as a band?

A: Well, one of the coolest things for sure was winning the Hard Rock Rising battle of the bands in 2012 and 2013. It was a lot of fun and a great experience, especially feeling the love from our Rags through every stage of the competition.

Q: Lets be honest.  There are plenty of things that can go wrong or happen unexpectedly doing any kind of live performance and especially music.  What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to Whiskey Reverb during a performance?

A:Haha, there are a lot to pick from for all of us, but we are going to go with the time that Jim accepted a suspicious brownie during an afternoon performance at the Flower Harvest Festival a couple years back. After seeing the effects of the brownie on the gentleman who shared his goods, we shouldn’t have been that surprised when Candytree kept asking us if he was yodeling while singing the songs on stage with a very weird look in his eye lol. It got pretty funny when he started asking the audience if he was yodeling uncontrollably. We have a video of it somewhere online that he tries to suppress, we will have to share it sometime when he gets out of line 🙂

Q: Besides Buffalove where else can people see you play?

A:  We play FREE every Thursday in Buffalo at the Tudor Lounge (corner of Franklin & W. Tupper). We also have the pleasure of playing on a bunch of other festivals in the region, including Wild West Fest, JetLag Music Festival, Ithaca Street Festival, Purple Pig Festival, Niagara Falls Music & Art Fest, Latitude 43, and Opple Topple Music Fest to name a few.

Q: What’s in store in the future for Whiskey Reverb?

A: We hope to continue to make music that our friends and Rags enjoy. The future is bright and we are excited to share in that journey with them.

I’d like to thank Whiskey Reverb for their time in talking to me.  As you can see from the interview and all of the upcoming gigs they have lined up they are pretty busy so I really do appreciate their time.  Another theme that is evident from talking to them is that they care about putting on a good show for their fans.   Based on their answer to the question about the most embarrassing thing to happen they certainly seem to have fun doing it.

Whiskey Reverb Live 4

Whiskey Reverb’s latest album is out now.  Its called Nathan Bates Rejects The Illuminati.  Its released on Warner Bros. affiliate Projekt Records and the band wanted to let everyone know that a large portion of the proceeds from the sales of that album will be donated to the Hunter’s Hope Foundation.  Hunter’s Hope Foundation is a local charity that works toward testing newborns for early birth defect detection through wider screening processes.

Even better than making a donation on their own the band was also able to convince Sam Rosenberg, CEO at Projekt to match their donation if Whiskey Reverb is the highest selling album on the Projekt label this year.  To make things a little more interesting they upped the ante a bit by making a friendly bet with Sam that if they could not achieve top selling artist, Jim Candytree would shave his long ass hair and eyebrows off at a charity concert on NYE with USS.

Take a look at a few live performances from Whiskey Reverb and see for yourself.  Make sure to check them out at Buffalove Music Festival this year and if you like what you see pick up the latest album and help out a good cause.  You can grab Nathan Bates Rejects The Illuminati on iTunes.
