Jack White Streaming New Album And Feuding With The Black Keys

Fans of Jack White are quite excited for next week, as it marks both the release of Jack White’s new solo album and his performance as a headliner at the massive Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The album is set to drop on the Tuesday before the festival begins, June 10th. However, if you want to get in on the action early, you can actually stream Lazaretto in its entirety through iTunes. While this won’t guarantee you a copy of the album when it’s released, it will give you access to all 12 tracks all the way up until the album officially drops.

If you’re a fan of White, you’re no doubt wondering how the album compares to White’s previous solo album, Blunderbuss. As it turns out, the album is only somewhat similar. While Blunderbuss sounded like it was written very much during White’s days in the White Strips and the Raconteurs, Lazaretto seems more reminiscent of the Dead Weather. Regardless, it’s good music, and since you can check it out for free, why not?

In other Jack White news it seems the quirky rock star is having a few issues with some other bands.  If you’ve been following the news lately you will see there is some tension between White and The Black Keys.  In his Rolling Stone interview White accused The Black Keys of ripping off his sound.  But it didn’t stop there.  He also took some shots at Adele and also Lana Del Rey.  Since the time of the interview White backed off his statements and apologized to all of the artists he took issue with.  You can read part of his interview below and check out the full story in Rolling Stone.

“There are kids at school who dress like everybody else, because they don’t know what to do, and there are musicians like that, too. I’ll hear TV commercials where the music’s ripping off sounds of mine, to the point I think it’s me. Half the time, it’s the Black Keys. The other half, it’s a sound-alike song because they couldn’t license one of mine. There’s a whole world that’s totally fine with the watered-down version of the original.”

White continued by saying:

Some people will hear that, and say ‘Oh, Jack White thinks he’s the first person to play the blues.’ But certain acts open up a market for a certain style. Amy Winehouse: Did she invent white soul? Wearing a beehive? No. But she did something brand new and fresh, altogether as a package, and you see who’s in her wake, from the Duffys to the Lana Del Reys,” he says. “Adele selling 20 million records? That would not have happened if Amy Winehouse was alive. The White Stripes did the same thing, and in our absence, you’re gonna find someone to fill that. And you get a band like the Black Keys, who said they never heard of the White Stripes? Sure.

Hopefully this minor feud is behind everyone for now and all of the bands involved will continue making their own style of music.  Hell, maybe sometime down the road they’ll all get together, hug it out and create a song together.  Don’t hold your breath for that…
