Billy Corgin Drops Experimental Album

As of late, Smashing Pumpkins frontman and icon for shiny-headed men everywhere Billy Corgin has been hard at work. He’s written two new Smashing Pumpkins albums, and in his free time, also put together an experimental album titled AEGEA.

The writing for AEGEA began way back in 2007, but none of the tracks have been available for sale until now. Even today, however, sales of AEGEA are limited to an initial pressing of 250 copies; hopefully the lucky few fans to get their hands on these albums have an overwhelming positive response, so that the project will be released to the general public.

Sonically, AEGEA is rather interesting; it feels very ambient and reminds one of “a soundtrack to some lost foreign film”, to put it in Corgin’s own words. So far, only a three minute demo clip of one of the tracks has been placed online, but the meditative and relaxing quality of these tracks is very refreshing, if a bit outside of Corgin’s typical arsenal. Still, we’d love to get a chance to hear the entire album, and eagerly are awaiting a public release.
